| Back in March 2007, I posted about The Sad State of Mac OSX Printer Drivers. I’m sad to say that little has changed. Even noted computer experts like Leo Laporte seem to be unaware that this is an issue with Apple and the printer manufacturers. In hour three of Leo Laporte’s The Tech Guy radio show on Sunday 13 January 2008 (episode 422), a caller says she was unable to print to her Canon Pixma printer from her Mac when the printer is on the network. She is able to print when she connects the printer directly to the Mac. Q Verit - Print server not working You need to add it as an IP Printer. Then you find out the IP of the Printer and then put that into the Mac’s and other Windows Machine. The Mac comes with Direct Print drivers, however you need network drivers for that Canon printer. You can use Unix drivers, but it’s not worth it. You’ll probably just want to get a Canon for the mac. Canon just doesn’t believe that Apple users have network printers that are either connected to a Windows box or a print server. | |

| I picked up an extra Song of the Day from Starbucks this morning. The song is from Rogue Wave: Lake Michigan. This code can only be used once and by only a single person. So, grab it quick! - open iTunes and click iTunes Store.
- click Redeem
- Enter the code: 9N4LJPLFRAW7
I only ask that whomever is able to get the song to reply to this post with a "I got it!" or similar. Makes me feel happy. Enjoy :) | |

| This past Sunday my 30GB iPod photo finally died. It lasted just over three years and it was a true veteran. It was dropped, kicked, washed (accidentally), and chewed on by Tonks. Sunday afternoon after returning from the build site of the new house, I went back out to the car and dropped the iPod three times in 60 seconds. Low and behind it finally died. I took it apart, reseated everything but when the iPod started, I heard the click click of a dead hard drive. After an hour of trying to coax it back to life, my wife offered to buy a new 30GB Video iPod for my birthday. I loaded it up with podcasts, music and video. What I've noticed is that when I go iPod -> Music -> Podcasts -> The Chris Pirillo Show, I saw a normal podcast and no video. After a few seconds of thinking I messed something up, I didn't, I tried iPod -> Video Podcasts -> The Chris Pirillo Show and video was found :) I would have thought that it wouldn't make any difference if I played the video podcast from "Podcasts" or "Video Podcasts", but apparently it does. | |

| Recently my iTunes connection to the Apple Music Store stopped working. Well, it turns out that iTunes uses Internet Explorer to communicate with the store. I had to reenable TLS 1.0 in Internet Explorer for it to work. Took me more than an hour to find this: March 11, 2005, 4:52 pm Posted by jbroniec in General Rating: 5/5 Votes : 1 So, as many of you know, Jimmy is a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer.
Jimmy also has an iPod mini. It was this latter fact that lead to Jimmy's ownership of an interesting issue with Itunes, Windows XPSP2, and XP in general.
We upgraded a few of the fine folks here at Jimmy's work, and their Itunes libraries imported okay, but when they went to authorize the songs, they got this message:
"iTunes could not connect to the music store. Make sure your network connection is active and try again."
So I himmed and hawed and googled to no avail. Until a lightbulb went off in my head. It's a stupid, default configuration thing in XPSP2. For those of you just seeking the fix, here it is:
1. Close Itunes 2. Launch IE. 3. Go to Tools, Internet Options. 4. Click on the "Advanced" tab. 5. Find the Security section. 6. Check the box for SSL 3.0 7. Check the box for TLS 1.0 8. Close IE, restart Itunes, and All Is Well
Feel free to comment as you wish.
Have a great weekend everyone!
